What it checks
Character set, length, check digit, and GS1 Application Identifier syntax. A wrong check digit or a malformed element string is refused, the same way a scanner would refuse it.
What it does not do
Allocate numbers. GTINs come from your GS1 prefix, SSCCs from your warehouse system, lots from your batch record. The generator draws what you give it.

Place the file at 100%, keep the quiet zones clear, and check the size against the symbology page. For packaging, grade a printed proof with a verifier.
The labels that change every shipment should not come from a generator
A UPC on a pack is artwork; make it once. A GS1-128 shipping label with an SSCC, a lot, and a PO number is operational output that has to match the 856 ASN exactly. EndlessEDI generates those labels and the ASN from the same shipment record, so the carton and the document agree by construction.
Frequently asked questions
Will a barcode from this generator scan at a retailer?
The symbol is built to the GS1 General Specifications, so the structure, check digit, and guard bars are correct. Whether it scans on a shelf depends on what you do next: print it at 100% without rescaling, at the magnification and quiet zones the spec requires, with enough contrast for the scanner. The symbology pages list those dimensions. For retail packaging, verify a printed proof with a barcode verifier before the production run.
Does this give me a UPC or GTIN I can use?
No. The generator renders a number you already own. GTINs come from a GS1 Company Prefix licensed to your brand, and SSCCs and lot numbers come from your own systems. Enter a made-up number and you will get a perfectly formed barcode for a product that does not exist, which every marketplace and retailer will reject.
Can I generate SSCC-18 labels here for a retail shipment?
You can render one to check a value or mock up a label. You should not produce shipping labels this way. An SSCC has to be unique per carton, drawn from a controlled series, and written into the 856 ASN by the same system that prints it. Typing SSCCs into a generator is how labels and ASNs stop matching.
Why are the SVG and EPS downloads behind an email?
The PNG is free and fine for screens and quick checks. The vector files, SVG and EPS, are what go to a packaging designer or a print shop, so we ask for a work email once per device before handing it over. It routes to our team so we can occasionally share operator notes; there is no sales sequence attached.
Which 2D codes are supported?
QR Code, GS1 DataMatrix, and PDF417. For GS1 DataMatrix and GS1-128, enter element strings with the Application Identifiers in parentheses, such as (01)00614141000418(17)271130(10)LOT2261, and the generator inserts the FNC1 characters a scanner needs.
