Dropship
A model where the supplier ships directly to the end customer on a retailer’s behalf.
Also known as: drop ship, dropshipping
What is Dropship?
Dropship is a fulfillment model in which a retailer takes the order but the supplier ships the product directly to the end customer, so the retailer never holds the inventory. It lets retailers offer an extended assortment without carrying stock, and it runs on tight EDI: real-time inventory (846), orders (850), and ship confirmations (856). Dropship success hinges on inventory accuracy, because the retailer is selling stock it can’t see.
