PRO Number
The tracking number an LTL or truckload carrier assigns to a shipment.
Also known as: progressive number
What is PRO Number?
A PRO number is the identifier a motor carrier assigns to a shipment when it accepts the freight, usually printed as a barcode label on the bill of lading and on each handling unit. It is the number the carrier uses for tracking, status messages, proof of delivery, and the freight bill, so every later conversation with the carrier starts with it. Brands that never capture the PRO against their own shipment record end up matching carrier invoices to orders by hand.
How Endless handles it
Endless keeps carrier references on the inbound or outbound shipment record next to the PO and the ASN, so a status update or a freight bill can be traced to the order it belongs to.
Frequently asked questions
Is a PRO number the same as a bill of lading number?
No. The shipper creates the bill of lading number, and the carrier assigns the PRO number when it takes the freight. Most bills of lading carry both, and a retailer’s routing guide often requires both on the ASN.
