What is AS2?
AS2 (Applicability Statement 2) is a protocol for sending EDI documents securely over the internet using encryption and digital certificates, with a Message Disposition Notification (MDN) as proof of receipt. It lets trading partners connect point-to-point without a VAN, which large retailers like Walmart often mandate. AS2 handles transport; the payload is still standard X12 or EDIFACT.
