What is Drayage?
Drayage is the truck move that carries an ocean or intermodal container between a port terminal or rail ramp and a nearby warehouse, transload facility, or another terminal. A drayage carrier needs the container to be released by Customs and the steamship line, a terminal appointment, and a chassis to put it on. Because pickup has to happen before the last free day and the empty has to come back before detention starts, drayage capacity often determines what a container really costs.
