SCAC (Standard Carrier Alpha Code)
The two-to-four-letter code that identifies a transportation carrier.
Also known as: SCAC, Standard Carrier Alpha Code
What is SCAC (Standard Carrier Alpha Code)?
A SCAC (Standard Carrier Alpha Code) is a unique two-to-four-letter code assigned to a transportation company by the National Motor Freight Traffic Association. It identifies the carrier on bills of lading, in EDI transactions such as the 204 and 214, in retailer routing guides, and in U.S. Customs filings, where ocean carriers and NVOCCs must use one. A wrong SCAC on a bill of lading or ASN breaks the match between the paperwork and the truck at the dock.
How Endless handles it
Endless records the carrier on each shipment alongside the PO and the ASN, so the carrier named in a retailer document matches the one that showed up.
