EDI 309: U.S. Customs Manifest
The cargo manifest an ocean carrier or NVOCC files with U.S. Customs.
Carrier / NVOCC → U.S. Customs and Border Protection
Before ocean cargo is loaded for a U.S. port.
What is the EDI 309?
The EDI 309 transmits a vessel’s cargo manifest to U.S. Customs and Border Protection through the Automated Manifest System: each bill of lading, its shipper and consignee, the containers, and the cargo description. For ocean imports it is due before the cargo is loaded at the foreign port. Brands rarely send it themselves, but a manifest that does not match the importer’s ISF or entry is a common cause of a customs hold.
How EndlessEDI handles the 309
EndlessEDI supports the 309, with the shipment, PO, and SKU details on the manifest drawn from the same record as the order.
