What is the EDI 315?
The EDI 315 reports ocean container milestones: gate-in at the origin terminal, loaded on vessel, vessel departure (VD), vessel arrival (VA), discharge, availability, gate-out, and the empty return. Each update carries the container number, the bill of lading or booking number, the vessel and voyage, and the location. Importers use 315s to forecast arrival at the warehouse and to start counting free time before demurrage and detention begin.
