What is Integration Platform as a Service (iPaaS)?
An Integration Platform as a Service (iPaaS) is hosted middleware that connects systems — a storefront, an ERP, a warehouse system, a 3PL, marketplaces — translating each one’s format and moving records between them on a schedule. It closes gaps quickly without replacing anything, which is its main appeal. Its main cost is ongoing: every connection is a mapping someone maintains, and every sync leaves a window in which two systems disagree about the same inventory.

When does iPaaS stop being the right answer?
When it is holding together a stack that has outgrown its parts rather than closing genuine gaps between systems that should stay separate. A clear signal is DTC, wholesale, and retail all drawing from one inventory pool while middleware tries to keep three systems agreeing about it.
