What is Tracking Status?
A tracking status is the current state of a shipment, built from the scan events a carrier records as the package or freight moves. Every carrier uses its own event codes, so shipping platforms normalize them into a short list of states such as pre-transit, in transit, out for delivery, delivered, returned, and failure, with substatuses that explain exceptions like an address problem or a delay. For truckload and LTL freight, the same information arrives as EDI 214 status messages.
