EDI Requirements

RONA EDI Requirements

RONA inc. is a Canadian home-improvement retailer operating the RONA and Réno-Dépôt banners. Its implementation guide states that all invoices, debits, and credits must be sent by EDI, and that distribution-centre and corporate-store purchase orders are sent by EDI, while dealer-store and special orders may still arrive by phone, fax, or email.

Required EDI documents

Document Name Notes
EDI 850 Purchase Order DC and corporate-store orders
EDI 810 Invoice required for all invoices, debits, and credits
EDI 997 Functional Acknowledgment required

Labeling & packaging

  • RONA’s EDI implementation guide covers the 850 and 810 only; carton labeling and routing rules are set in RONA’s supplier and logistics documentation — confirm requirements with your RONA contact.

Connection & portal

  • ANSI X12 version 4010, exchanged through a value-added network (the guide names Sterling Commerce).
  • Credit authorization numbers are issued through RONA’s vendor site (vendors.rona.ca) and referenced on credit invoices.

Onboarding & testing

RONA’s guide describes a fixed sequence: exchange identifiers and the supplier number, confirm the VAN, validate the connection and envelope syntax, then run a parallel test in which paper and EDI documents are exchanged together and paper remains the official record. Once both sides are satisfied, the supplier moves to production and paper documents stop.

Compliance & chargebacks

  • • RONA’s guide states that a 1% fee is charged and deducted from payments for suppliers who are not compliant with its EDI and EFT transmission systems.
  • • Credit invoices use transaction type code CN in BIG07 and must carry the credit authorization number; invoices without product lines use code AI.

Worth knowing

  • • Orders can arrive by EDI and by phone, fax, or email for the same supplier, so order intake still needs a non-EDI path for dealer-store and special orders.
  • • The 1% fee applies to payments, so non-compliance costs scale with total sales to RONA, not with the number of errors.

How EndlessEDI helps with RONA

EndlessEDI handles RONA’s 850 and 810 on X12 4010, including credit invoices with authorization references, and keeps dealer-store orders that arrive by email on the same order record as the EDI orders.

RONA EDI FAQ

What EDI documents does RONA require?

RONA’s implementation guide covers the 850 purchase order, the 810 invoice (including credits and debits), and the 997 functional acknowledgment, all on X12 version 4010.

Does RONA charge a fee for not using EDI?

Yes. RONA’s guide states a 1% fee is charged and deducted from payments for suppliers not compliant with its EDI and EFT transmission systems.

Are all RONA purchase orders sent by EDI?

No. Distribution-centre and corporate-store POs are sent by EDI. Dealer-store orders and special orders may be sent by phone, fax, or email, while all invoices, debits, and credits must be sent by EDI.

EDI requirements and penalty schedules change and vary by program. Figures marked “reported” come from third-party sources, not the retailer’s published fee schedule — always confirm against the retailer’s current routing guide and your vendor agreement.
